Letter of the Week: Gordon Clack

From the Daily Telegraph.

SIR – If, as is more than likely, Hamas retaliates to the assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, will any action by them be described as “terrorism”?

Of course it won't be called "terrorism".

"Terrorism" is always what Israel's enemies do, never what Israel does.

IOf the retaliation were against a member of the cabinet who authorised it or of Mossad who carried it out then it shouldn't be described as terrorism. However this would be a first. Hamas have always previously gone for civilians or border guards not attacking them.

If Israel were to use their rockets to deliberately target civilians in Gaza or East Jerusalem to the maximum extent they were capable this would certainly be described as terrorism but again it would be a first because only Hamas do that.
